Description
Sierra Green Marble features a deep, dark forest-green background with rich tonal variations ranging from deep emerald to softer, muted green patches. Its surface is characterized by prominent diagonal and intersecting veins in lighter green and pale white, accompanied by darker fissures that create a dramatic, naturally flowing linear pattern. Fine scattered speckles add subtle texture and visual depth.
Texture & Pattern
This marble has a predominantly fine- to medium-grained crystalline texture with an irregular veining structure. Its intersecting diagonal veins create a dynamic, layered appearance, while the contrast between dark green areas, lighter mineral bands, and occasional fissures gives each slab a distinctive natural character. Available finishes may include polished, honed, and leathered, depending on processing.
Hardness
The hardness of Sierra Green Marble has not been independently specified. Marble generally has a Mohs hardness of approximately 3–4, depending on its mineral composition. It is therefore more susceptible to scratching and acid etching than granite and requires appropriate care in high-use applications.
Chemical & Mineralogical Composition
The exact mineralogical and chemical composition of Sierra Green Marble has not been provided. Depending on its geological formation, green marble may contain calcite and/or dolomite, with green coloration potentially associated with minerals such as serpentine, chlorite, or other silicate minerals.
Possible carbonate minerals:
- Calcite (CaCO₃) and dolomite [CaMg(CO₃)₂]
- Possible green minerals: Serpentine-group minerals and chlorite
- Other possible components: Quartz and minor accessory minerals
Exact mineral percentages and chemical oxide values (% by weight) cannot be reliably determined from appearance alone and require laboratory analysis.
Usage
Sierra Green Marble is suitable for interior wall cladding, feature walls, flooring, bathroom vanity tops, decorative countertops, fireplace surrounds, reception desks, tabletops, and bespoke architectural elements. Its dramatic green coloration and distinctive veining make it particularly suitable for statement installations and luxury interior designs. For kitchen countertops and other acid-exposed surfaces, protective treatment and careful maintenance are recommended.
Maintenance
Clean with a soft cloth and a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid vinegar, lemon juice, acidic detergents, abrasive powders, and harsh chemicals, as these may etch or damage the marble surface. Apply a suitable penetrating stone sealer to help reduce staining, particularly on countertops and bathroom surfaces. Wipe spills promptly, use coasters and cutting boards, and avoid leaving oils or coloured liquids on the stone. Periodic resealing may be required depending on the finish and level of use.
